CLAE, a premium footwear brand, has partnered with SEAQUAL® INITIATIVE to address the problem of marine plastic waste. SEAQUAL INITIATIVE is a unique organization that is dedicated to fighting ocean plastic pollution. Together, they have come up with an innovative solution to tackle this problem by using plastic waste to craft footwear.
SEAQUAL YARN is a recycled fiber made from 100% post-consumer recycled polyester that is obtained from marine plastic waste collected with the help of local fishermen, individuals, and organizations. This unique material is used to craft the Bradley & Porter Knit uppers, which feature 100% PU foam and naturally antibacterial cork insoles for barefoot wear.
The Porter Knit comes in Navy, White Eggnog, Black Eggnog, Olive Eggnog, and Eggnog Trekking Green, all for $120. The upper is made from vegan and recycled SEAQUAL YARN and the open mesh is from upcycled marine plastic waste. The cork footbed and 100% recycled PU foam insole provide additional comfort, while the Venice Premium (VP) outsole made out of 30% natural rubber adds durability.
Meanwhile, the Recycled Bradley Knit comes in Navy White, White Olive Vanilla, Deep Navy Natural, and Olive Black for $150. This shoe features a vegan and recycled SEAQUAL YARN upper, a synthetic leather heel accent, recycled nylon laces, and a recycled PU foam insole to optimize comfort. It also comes with a standard Premium (SP) outsole made out of 30% natural rubber.
Not only is this initiative a step towards a cleaner ocean, but it is also a testament to CLAE’s commitment to leading new product development using alternative, recycled, and vegan materials with low ecological impact. CLAE strives to minimize its overall footprint and ensure the use of responsible manufacturing practices.
