Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are unveiled as the latest pair of high-profile actors to come to Netflix in the Project Power Official Trailer. Gordon-Levitt stars as Frank, a detective investigating the seedy criminal underworld of New Orleans infects the city’s streets with a dangerous new drug. Unlike other drugs, users aren’t lulled into a euphoric high. Instead, they grant a unique superpower to each user from super-human strength to invisibility. The supernatural power each user is endowed with makes cracking the case behind the pill next-to-impossible for Frank. That is until his investigation intersects with Foxx, who plays Art, a jaded soldier whose daughter has fallen into peril after going missing in the crime-riddled streets. The pair meets Robin, a dealer played by Dominique Fishback as the lead they’ve been waiting for to crack the case.
Project Power casts aside the traditional tropes of a superhero film for something more grounded to put an emphasis on the realism of the story. The plot explores how unbridled yet fleeting power affects the human condition.The film was directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who brought Mattson Tomlin’s highly sought-after script to the streaming service after being contentiously bid on by several other studios. This Netflix Original is set to debut on August 14th.
