Located in the picturesque Catalan town of Baix Empordà, just outside Girona, the Pin8 House by PMMT Arquitectura is a striking blend of tradition, sustainability, and modern design. The contemporary two-story residence harmoniously integrates the region’s architectural heritage with the demands of modern living, resulting in a light-filled, flexible home that feels at one with its surroundings.

The rectangular structure is defined by three key design strategies: large openings, double-height spaces, and lush internal patios. Together, these create a constant dialogue between indoor and outdoor life, flooding the interiors with sunlight and natural ventilation. The ground floor connects directly to the garden through expansive sliding glass walls, while the upper level features three landscaped patios that enhance light, air circulation, and bioclimatic comfort.

A cross-laminated timber (CLT) framework, supported by metal pillars, forms the home’s structural backbone—its ribbed woodwork reminiscent of an inverted ship’s hull, or “Pinocchio’s whale,” which inspired the house’s name. This expressive use of local, sustainable materials underscores PMMT Arquitectura’s commitment to environmental responsibility and pre-industrialized construction.

Inside, the open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas converge into a double-height communal hub, seamlessly extending into the garden. Wooden panels shield the glass from harsh sunlight while adding texture to the minimalist facade. Rooted in local craftsmanship yet distinctly contemporary, Pin8 House stands as a masterclass in balancing form, function, and environmental awareness—a modern home breathes with the rhythm of its surroundings.
