The rapid development and urbanization in China has lead to a dramatically different architectural landscape in the Middle Kingdom. From physics defying skyscrapers to new landmarks being built every day, seems like there’s no slowing down for China’s development boom. All this development has brought the country quickly into the 21st Century, but it also meant there are a number of buildings that were built prior to urbanization being neglected. One of the neglected buildings is now the home of Blue Moon Films, located on the bank of Wen-Yu River of east Beijing. Blue Moon Films reached out to Cun-Design to transform the mansion built in the ‘90s into an open and airy office space.
The new design rectifies the fragmented floor plan by opening up walls and removing doors for a more appropriate layout that’s fitting of a modern workspace. The resulting design is a mix of old and new, staying mindful of the original structure while adding new elements. The open concept design makes good use of the area created by knocking down numerous walls and also incorporates the garden, but also kept the unique requirements of a film studio in mind by creating intimate spaces for the filmmakers as well.
