Netflix Releases The First Photos From ‘Cowboy Bebop’ Coming In November

This live-action adaptation is based on the beloved anime series from the 1990s.

Netflix has just released the first-ever photos from the sci-fi anime adaption of its upcoming series, Cowboy Bebop scheduled to air on November 19th. The photos show the main cast — John Cho as Spike Spiegel, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black, and Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine — featuring what look to be final costumes and sets for the series. According to Netflix, the trio forms “a scrappy, snarky crew ready to hunt down the solar system’s most dangerous criminals — for the right price.”  Described as “an action-packed space Western about three bounty hunters, aka ‘cowboys,’ all trying to outrun the past,” Cowboy Bebop has been a long time coming to the small screen. Netflix’s adaptation has been in the works since 2018, having been forced to delay production for several months after Cho suffered a knee injury requiring surgery.

The original anime series debuted in Japan in 1998, with the 26-episode series taking place in the late 21st century. Earth is now uninhabitable, but most of Earth’s solar system has been colonized. In this series, bounty hunters called Cowboys roam the solar system looking to take down bad buys to collect their fee. This series focuses on a group of “Cowboys” on their ship called the Bebop. The show combined elements of sci-fi and western films, with some detective crime noir for good measure. The series was followed by a feature film, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie in 2001.
