Those in a position to own one of the highest shelf luxury vehicles need to start calling their business managers because Mercedes-Benz has just announced a new Maybach S580, and it wants to make Bentley and Rolls-Royce look like old money. New for 2021, the Maybach S580 sports a fresh face with a 27-slat front grille and polished air vents. The S580 is a full seven inches longer than the standard Mercedes-Benz S-Class. A touch of nostalgia comes in the form of a chrome strip that runs down the middle of the car’s hood that makes one think of the straight-12 cylinder, coach-built luxury cars of the 1920s, complete with two-tone exterior colors.
Inside this highway private jet is the optional Executive Rear Seat Plus package, which offers rear passengers business class individual seats with a console separating them. These seats can recline, come with leg and foot-rests, and also feature full-body massage programs – heated and ventilated, of course. The center console offers folding tables and temperature-controlled cup holders. As standard, all Mercedes-Maybachs comes with the new rear-seat airbag that works by deploying from the back of the front seat.
Engine options on the 2021 Maybach S580 are currently limited to one — a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 using EQ-Boost mild-hybrid technology. The V8 produces 496 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque using a nine-speed automatic transmission sending power to an all-wheel-drive system. The 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S580 is set to hit showrooms in early 2021.
