Over the years, few aspects of history and culture haven’t been treated to LEGO, from classic cars and airplanes to movie tie-ins for all the major blockbuster franchises. The brand’s latest model reflects the past, replicating a legendary ship that embarked on a bold but ultimately doomed voyage.
Released to mark the one-hundredth anniversary of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s death, LEGO The Endurance brings to life the iconic ship that attempted an arduous journey around Antarctica and was rediscovered on the seafloor after failing to accomplish its mission. The crew’s survival is one of history’s most compelling stories of endurance, as well as a feat of shipbuilding and the ingenious construction of The Endurance.
Made from over three thousand pieces, LEGO The Endurance replicates the design in all its glory, from the intricate sails and impressive hull to subtle details, including the anchor, winches, and much more. Three towering masts raise the model’s height to 18.5 in., with a length of 31.5 in. and a width of 9.5 in.
The LEGO Endurance model comes with digital building instructions available through the LEGO Builder app, while the functional ship’s wheel and moving rudder enhance the level of interaction. When complete, it forms a striking centerpiece in the home or office, with movable sections providing a peek into the interior cabins and the ship’s steam engine.
A fitting tribute to Shackleton’s enduring story, LEGO’s The Endurance model is a visually detailed love letter to the spirit of exploration.
