Film photography has been making a slow-burn comeback for years, but Kodak’s latest release might be the most charming entry point yet. The new Kodak Snapic A1, developed under license by Hong Kong–based Reto Production, taps directly into that nostalgia—combining the analog simplicity of throwback point-and-shoots with just enough modern functionality to keep things effortless. At just $99 and sized perfectly for a jacket pocket, it’s aimed squarely at anyone who wants to reconnect with the tactile magic of film without diving deep into collector-grade gear.

The Kodak Snapic A1 keeps things delightfully straightforward. Its 25mm three-element glass lens offers a fixed f/9.5 aperture and manual focus with only two settings: 1.5m to infinity, or 0.5–1.5m for closer subjects. It also supports multiple exposure shooting, allowing creative layering directly on film—something rarely found in budget analog cameras. Weighing just 117 grams and built from plastic, it’s effortlessly portable and comes in two colorways, Rhino Grey and Ivory White, complete with a neck strap and pouch.

Despite its retro vibe, it includes a few digital conveniences: automatic film loading, film advance, and rewind, plus an automatic flash with red-eye reduction. A top-mounted OLED display shows battery life and remaining exposures, making the experience less guesswork and more pure fun. With subtle Kodak orange accents throughout, the Snapic A1 feels like a homage to the brand’s 1970s and ’80s design language—without the headaches of vintage hardware.

Is it basic? Absolutely. But that’s the point. At $99, the Kodak Snapic A1 is a charming, accessible gateway into film photography—one that puts creativity back into your hands and keeps the experience light, fun, and refreshingly simple.
