The famed Bauhaus art school (although tragically short-lived) was founded 100 years ago in 1919. Stressing aesthetics of sleek, even stark, simplicity, the school gave birth to a modernist movement with effects that continue to reverberate around the world today. And what better watch to celebrate perhaps the most influential art movement of the 20th century than with a Max Bill?

We’ve already talked enough about one of our favorite dress/casual watches and its variants. The Junghans Max Bill 100 Jahre Bauhaus seems like an industrial take on the Max Bill automatic 38mm, adopting an anthracite PVD-coated steel case, convex sapphire crystal instead of the usual acrylic, and date wheel and lume in red. The matte silver dial references the white walls of the famed Bauhaus building, while the case reflects the color of its exterior façade. The red accents on the hands and the date window also match the Bauhaus building’s striking red door.

Fittingly, the case back features a printed picture of the Bauhaus building itself and the windows through which the movement can be observed. A memorable way to celebrate 100 years of Bauhaus, the Junghans Max Bill Automatic 100 Jahre Bauhaus comes on a grey calf leather strap with PVD-coated buckle and is limited to 1000 pieces.
