Johnnie Walker has just unveiled what might be its most ambitious and forward-thinking release yet: the Blue Label Ultra. Launching May 1st in North America with only 888 bottles available globally, this $1,250 limited-edition Scotch not only boasts a rare blend of ghost whiskies from now-closed distilleries like Brora and Port Dundas, but also comes housed in the world’s lightest 70cl glass whisky bottle—just 6.3 ounces.

Crafted with patented lightweight glass technology developed by Diageo’s in-house design team, the Blue Label Ultra bottle is a masterclass in luxury and sustainability. In a move that speaks to the brand’s commitment to progress, Diageo is open-sourcing the patent royalty-free, inviting the entire industry to step into a more eco-conscious future.

The whisky itself, blended by Johnnie Walker Master Blender Dr. Emma Walker, carries a complex flavor profile with red berries, sweet vanilla, wood spice, toffee, and a signature wisp of smoke. But this release isn’t just about what’s in the bottle—it’s about redefining luxury from the ground up.

To celebrate, Johnnie Walker has partnered with leading North American designers and The Corning Museum of Glass to debut bespoke works inspired by the new bottle during NYCxDesign at the Cristina Grajales Gallery. It’s a collector’s piece, a sustainability statement, and a toast to what’s next.
