Florentine Ariosto Jones founded IWC Schaffhausen in Boston in 1868. At that time, Jones set a goal of bringing Swiss-quality watchmaking to his home city in the U.S. and has more than succeeded with a wide array of stunning watches. The newly-released IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “Woodland” and “Lake Tahoe” watches are the latest additions to the brand’s TOP GUN collection.
The dark green hue of the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition ‘Woodland’ is inspired by the dress worn by Top Gun pilots and the forested landscapes they use as their training grounds. IWC’s colored models are made using ceramics that are created from zirconium oxide mixed with other metallic oxides. The monochromatic ‘Woodland’ is the first model to feature this unique color. The watch has a 44.5-mm case and the pushers, crown, and case back are made from Ceratanium, which is also used for the TOP GUN logo. The day and date display are at 3 o’clock. The color of the green rubber strap with a textile inlay matches the color of the case.
Inspired by the winter landscape of Lake Tahoe, a mountainous area between California and Nevada frequently flown over by the pilots of the U.S Navy TOPGUN School, the IWC “Lake Tahoe” edition features a 44.5-millimeter white ceramic case, a pitch-black dial, and black hands coated with luminescent material. The pushers and crown are made of stainless steel, the case back of titanium. The matching white rubber strap with a distinctive embossing accentuates this eye-catching design. IWC will only produce 1,000 pieces of each edition annually, which might make these some of the most desired IWC Pilot’s Watches yet. Florentine Ariosto Jones would be happy to hear his timepieces are now being showcased at the 2022 Watches & Wonders exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland.
