IWC Schaffhausen launched the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar at the recent digital Watches & Wonders exhibition. The timepiece with a stainless steel case and a blue dial continues the long-standing tradition of perpetual calendar watches in the Big Pilot’s collection. The perpetual calendar feature is an IWC brand mainstay, with some 37 versions throughout the company’s history. While common for the brand, the feature is far from simple as it is one of the most complex and technically challenging watch features IWC offers. Historically, IWC has kept its perpetual calendar models to limited-edition offerings, like their 2006 Limited Edition that consisted of just 25 pieces. Now, IWC is introducing a new standard production line allowing more people to purchase this ultra-popular timepiece feature.
IWC’s Big Pilot’s watch is fuelled by the IWC-manufactured 52615 calibre which drives the calendar module using a single nightly switching impulse. The face has plenty of real estate to display a great deal of information, such as date, day, month, and year. The robust stainless steel case sits large on the wrist measuring 46.2mm in diameter and 15.4mm in height and yet, thanks to its contoured integrated lugs and blue calfskin leather strap fitted with an IWC decorated pin buckle, it sits exceptionally comfortably. The case back is another interesting feature on the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar model as it is visible and the inner workings contain an astounding 386 parts. Available now to preorder, the watch will be shipped starting on May 28th.
