IWC’s Big Pilot’s Watch line has just grown by two with the addition of the 43mm Spitfire Editions ref. IW329701 and ref. IW329702. The former watch is crafted from titanium, while the latter features a bronze case. Ref. IW329701, the first of the pair, reflects the traditional styling of the Big Pilot in that it has the high contrast matte black dial with white numerals. The watch maintains its retro layout with the minutes and seconds separated onto a circumferential scale with the hours on an internal scale, done in a soft shade of grey. The 43mm case and the emblematic fluted crown are done in titanium. The solid caseback is also titanium and features an engraved Supermarine Spitfire motif. The watch is handsomely finished with a brown calfskin strap.
The second IWC Spitfire, ref. IW329702 features a bronze case and crown and, like its sibling, has a titanium caseback with the same engraving of the Supermarine Spitfire. IWC adds copper, aluminum, and iron to the bronze, making the alloy 50 percent harder than standard bronze. This watch reverts back to the classic single track hour, minute, and seconds scale for a more streamlined look. The hands are gold-plated, which meshes well with the bronze case and the green found in the buffalo leather strap. Both watches are powered by IWC’s 82100 in-house caliber with Pellaton winding and a 60-hour power reserve.
