If you thought that getting that weight set and bench will be an automatic ticket to rock hard abs and bulging biceps, you know better by now that it probably hasn’t worked the way you had imagined. The force is strong with the couch, and without the expensive monthly fees and burley dudes around, it takes a lot to get oneself motivated enough to work out at home. Instead, you find your gaze fixed at the bag of potato chips and your comfy sofa.
Icaros, a new fitness and gaming device currently under development by a German innovation company called HYVE, hopes to be the cure for your laziness. People at HYVE call it bodytainment because it’s fun – while allowing you to get your workout on, Icaros will allow you to discover space or explore the Amazons through your VR goggles. You’ll have to control your flight path with the movement of your body while maintaining balance, a feat that will burn calories and simultaneously train your shoulders, back, abs, and core.
HYVE plans on launching a crowdfunding campaign to bring this unique product sometime this summer. You may not even realize how much of a workout you’re getting when stuck in virtual flight because it’s too enjoyable – just like Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay might have said, “Virtual Insanity is what we’re living in.”
