If you think the new Hyperion XP-1 prototype type looks like a Bugatti, you’re not alone. Besides the stellar design, the XP-1 is the result of 10 years of research and development in hydrogen technology by over 200 researchers and scientists. The Hyperion XP-1 looks like it’s capable of bending time just standing still. The XP-1 bodywork is built using a carbon titanium monocoque bringing the car’s total weight to just 2,275 pounds. It is designed with v-wing doors and an electronically-tinted wrap-around glass canopy. Other design details include a Kevlar composite diffuser, active aerodynamic side blades designed to improve high-speed cornering, and are covered in solar panels.

Hyperion states the XP-1 is capable of hitting 0-60 in less than 2.2 seconds, reaches a top speed of 221 mph, and has a range of over 1,000 miles. Keeping the XP-1 glued to the track is a set of Pirelli P Zero tires rolling on 20-inch and 21-inch wheels. Pizza sized carbon-ceramic disc brakes bring this hydrogen hypercar to a stop.Hyperion has not released full details on the interior or drivetrain of this hydro-hypercar. We know that the XP-1 has a proton exchange membrane fuel cell with multiple electric motors powering an all-wheel-drive system using a three-speed transmission. The interior will include carbon fiber seats wrapped in hand-stitched leather. Of all the impressive details what stands out, in particular, is the claim that the XP-1 can be refueled in less than five minutes. Hyperion plans on building 300 examples of the XP-1 starting in 2022.
