Only Watch was created in 2005 by Luc Pettavino and under H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco’s high patronage with one intent: raise funds for research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) by auctioning one-off timepieces. According to Hublot’s CEO and Founder, Ricardo Guadalupe, “Only Watch was created in 2005 and our manufacture was founded just four years later, in 2009. We are both of the same generation. We have grown very quickly and have pushed the boundaries in our respective fields: Hublot in High Watchmaking and Only Watch in philanthropy. Whenever Only Watch founder Luc Pettavino needs us, we will be there. Hublot has never shirked its moral and social obligations, nor will it ever do so.”
Hublot unveiled its latest masterpiece to be auctioned on November 5, 2023, in Geneva—the Hublot MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Only Watch. This extraordinary timepiece not only showcases the brand’s commitment to haute horlogerie but also pays homage to the iconic Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami.
The MP-15 Takashi MurakamiTourbillon Only Watch is a true work of art, featuring a central tourbillon—a first for Hublot. This unique feature represents the fusion of art and horological design, symbolizing the heart of both the watch and its owner.
Takashi Murakami’s signature style is beautifully captured in this timepiece. The floral composition, inspired by his iconic smiling flower, takes center stage, with 12 petals adorned with 444 gemstones. The vibrant colors and meticulous craftsmanship evoke a sense of joy and wonder, reminiscent of Murakami’s Superflat Art.
Beyond its artistic appeal, the MP-15 boasts impressive technical specifications. The manual movement offers an exceptional 150-hour power reserve, a rarity in such a construction. The watch’s construction required innovative design choices, including a co-axial construction and a suspended central flying tourbillon, ensuring precise timekeeping while maintaining Murakami’s aesthetic vision.
Furthermore, this exclusive piece features a laser-engraved smiling face under its domed sapphire crystal, adding a touch of whimsy to its overall design. Takashi Murakami’s personal touch extends to the unique calligraphy on the watch, aptly named “Time of Rainbow,” which he created using his renowned skills in calligraphy.
The Hublot MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Only Watch is a collector’s dream, embodying the essence of art, craftsmanship, and philanthropy. This extraordinary timepiece stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and serves as a remarkable symbol of hope and creativity in the world of haute horlogerie.
