Hublot has introduced a new shape at Watches & Wonders 2022 that is getting lots of attention: the Square Bang Unico watch, which sits alongside the Spirit of Big Bang. Five new 42mm models set with the watchmaker’s HUB1280 Unico Manufacture movement are available, the first three in solid titanium, black ceramic, or King Gold. The last two blend titanium or King Gold with a black ceramic bezel. Featuring a ‘sandwich’ construction, it offers the wearer the same deep profile as most Hublot watches. The Hublot Square Unico features a largely sapphire dial to offer a clear view into the Unico movement, notably its column wheel (seen at the 6 o’clock position) and the date wheel. Even the hands here echo those seen on Big Bang models.
Square-cased watches are notoriously difficult to make watertight, but the Square Bang Unico is guaranteed resistant down to 100 meters despite still featuring the exposed bezel screws that are a signature of its round ancestor, from which the protective ‘ears’ of the case are also carried over. The new Hublot watches are equipped with a new rubber strap distinguished by a waffle pattern that can be replaced by other rubber or leather straps via a quick-change system.
That wasn’t all from Hublot. The watchmaker also introduced the Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Purple Sapphire. A limited-edition of fifteen pieces in translucent purple (a composite of aluminum oxide and chrome), which Hublot says is an industry premiere. Next, the Hublot Fusion Orlinski Bracelet is the first bracelet for its artistic collaboration. This 83-part titanium bracelet is faceted and bezeled to match the case, in titanium with a white dial or a black dial. Four additional colors are now available in the Hublot Big Bang Integral Ceramic collection. Look for new models in Green, Indigo Blue, Beige, and Sky Blue.
