Hermès Horloger has just unveiled its Slim d’Hermès Squelette Lune, the brand’s very first in-house skeleton dial. With past skeleton models like the 2010 Arceau Squelette, the Maison outsourced some of its more complex designs. This is not the case with the new 39.5mm Slim d’Hermès Squelette Lune: the intricate skeleton dial is manufactured at the fashion house’s watchmaking headquarters, Les Ateliers d’Hermès Horloger, in Le Noirmont, Switzerland. However, its ultra-thin H1950 movement, adorned with a sprinkling of the ‘H’ motif, was made by the elite Vaucher manufacture in Fleurier, Switzerland—known for creating calibers even for elite centuries-old watchmakers.

In an impressive juxtaposition of materials, the bead-blasted grade 5 titanium case is topped by a 950 platinum bezel and an 18K white gold crown and pusher, creating subtle light and texture effects. The deep shades of the Hermès openwork skeletonized dial, accentuated by an airy architecture and alternating matte and glossy finishes, express both the character and the refinement of this timepiece. Rounding out the design is a stylishly executed double moonphase display positioned at 6 o’clock. They rotate beneath two connected circles to mark the points of the moon’s rising and setting in the two hemispheres, which have been intricately finished in a sunray pattern. The blue hands, PVD-coated for legibility, match the stitching on the black alligator leather strap. As with the rest of the Slim d’Hermès collection, this watch is über stylish, with an interesting and unusual movement, and an air of effortlessness in execution.
