Grand Seiko has recently announced the release of its newest collection – the Evolution 9. This collection is set to ship in June 2023 and is available for pre-order now. Among the highlights of this collection is the Grand Seiko Evolution 9 Tentagraph – the brand’s first automatic chronograph.
The 43.2mm Tentagraph is equipped with the new Caliber 9SC5 movement, a Hi-Beat chronograph that beats ten times per second, ensuring precise time measurement. Its energy-efficient architecture allows the movement to run for up to three days even when the chronograph is in operation. What sets the Caliber 9SC5 apart is its testing procedure, which includes an extra three days to assess the watch in three positions while the chronograph is running. The alternating Zaratsu-polished and hairline-finished surfaces give the watch a harmonious glow.
The Grand Seiko Evolution 9 Tentagraph is made of high-intensity titanium, which is approximately 30% lighter than stainless steel. The dynamic blue dial features the brand’s signature Mt. Iwate pattern, which takes inspiration from the ridged contours of the nearby mountain visible from Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi.
The watch features both a vertical clutch and a column wheel, eliminating any shuddering or jumping of the hands when the chronograph is engaged, and offers precise control of the chronograph operation. The Evolution 9 Style ensures legibility with its prominent hands and indexes, and the case has a curved profile, wide lugs, and a low center of gravity for perfect comfort on the wrist. The fixed ceramic bezel protects the watch from scratches. The Grand Seiko Evolution 9 Tentagraph is priced at $13,700.
