Google has finally launched the highly anticipated Pixel Tablet, ending a long year of speculation, leaks, and teasers. This marks Google’s return to the tablet market after a hiatus since 2018 and the first time they have released an Android tablet since 2015. The Pixel Tablet comes in two variants: the 8GB/128GB model priced at $499 and the 8GB/256GB model priced at $599.
One of the standout features of the Pixel Tablet is its docking functionality, which is made possible through the included Charging Speaker Dock accessory. When docked, the tablet transforms into a Google Nest smart display, offering enhanced speakers, a digital photo frame mode, easy access to Google Assistant, and smart home control. However, it’s worth noting that the docking process does not enable wireless connection to the speakers, so users might want to consider using a separate Bluetooth speaker for that capability.
In terms of performance, the Pixel Tablet is powered by the Tensor G2 processor, accompanied by 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. While the Tensor G2 may not match the raw power of some rival chips, it still delivers fast and efficient performance for everyday tasks and demanding applications. The tablet sports a 10.95-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, offering a bright and vivid viewing experience. Additionally, it supports USI 2.0 stylus pens for those who prefer handwriting or artistic endeavors.
The Pixel Tablet’s design features an aluminum frame with a nano-ceramic coating, giving it a sleek and premium look. The tablet’s I/O includes a four-pin connector for the Charging Speaker Dock, a power button with an integrated fingerprint scanner, volume keys, and a USB-C port. The tablet’s battery capacity is 7,020mAh, which may be lower than some competitors but is designed to primarily stay docked when not in use.
While the Pixel Tablet is not meant to provide a top-tier photography experience, it offers 8MP cameras on both the front and back, along with useful features like continuous framing, Night Sight, Long Exposure, Top Shot, and Live HDR+ previews.
Overall, the Pixel Tablet combines powerful performance, smart docking capabilities, and a high-quality display, making it a compelling option for users in search of a versatile and immersive tablet experience.
