Today, Google held its ‘2022 Made by Google’ event at the National Sawdust live music venue in Brooklyn, NY, just a few steps from the new Google NYC Store. They introduced a new ‘Pixel Portfolio’ collection of devices, including the new Pixel 7 and 7 PRO phones.

The foundation of the Google Pixel 7 and the 7 Pro smartphones is the new Tensor G2 processor, which takes mobile technology to the next level. It adds enhanced photos, videos, security, and speech recognition features with its 60% faster and 20% more efficient processing, which lowers power consumption during everyday phone activities, voice calling, voice assistance, and music. The new processor also improves battery consumption, with the devices boasting 24-hour battery life – when using ‘Extreme Battery’ mode, the battery can last up to 72 hours.

The Pixel 7 continues to integrate Google’s ‘Call Assist’ suite, which features unknown call screening, direct my call automated attendant navigator, and the soon-to-be-released Clear Calling feature. Clear Calling uses the advanced noise cancellation technology found in Pixel Buds Pro headphones to isolate and clarify the caller’s voice on both ends of a conversation. The Pixel 7 camera integrates the new ML technologies with Google’s enhanced ‘Real Tone’ features, improving the accurate representation of people of color in photos and videos.

Pixel 7 with Tensor G2 improves image quality, especially in low-light or motion-blur situations. Tensor G2 uses a cutting-edge machine learning approach to remove more blur than any smartphone camera. In addition, the new Photo Unblur feature reprocesses photos – including those taken on other devices, no matter how old they are. For videos, the 10-bit HDR system and Cinematic Blur feature allow amazing high-definition video with low depth of field. Added stabilization features, improved autofocus, and more ANC-powered audio speech enhancement promise clearer, sharper, better sounding, and more professional videos.

The phones take accessibility for blind and low-vision users to the next level with new ‘Guided Frame’ technology, which uses audio cues to inform users when they have the best framing and lighting for a selfie or shot.

Pixel 7 PRO is Google’s most advanced phone yet, with a pro-level camera with performance to match. It has an upgraded 6.7″ QHD+ display from the Pixel 7’s 6.3″. However, the biggest upgrade feature of the Pixel 7 Pro is its camera system.

Pixel 7 PRO has the highest quality zoom feature equated to a DSLR camera with multiple lenses. The Next Generation Super-Res Zoom uses a higher resolution mode allowing a 12.5MP image at 2X zoom. When going beyond 2X, images are captured by the standard and the telephoto lens, and a machine learning algorithm merges them for outstanding 12.5MP quality up to 10X. Then, at 20x, Pro Level Zoom upscales photos and significantly reduces shakiness with its new stabilization algorithm powered by the Tensor processor. In addition, the Google ‘Macro Focus’ features allow full sharpness and vibrant shots down to the most precise details.

The Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will be available starting on October 13. Preordering is available today for the Pixel 7 with 128GB of storage, which is priced at $599, while the Pixel 7 Pro starts at $899 for its 128GB configuration. Google is offering trade-in credits and up to $200 in Google Store credits for a limited time.
