Having a home racing simulator means having a desire to get as close to the real thing without needing a car. The biggest perk of racing simulators is not having to worry about real-world joy ride killers like getting whiplash in a crash, dealing with legal consequences, or stopping to buy fuel. Fanatec recently announced an accessory that delivers an extra layer of realism to serious sim racers. The Fanatec x BMW M4 GT3 Podium Steering Wheel is a steering wheel that is 100 percent identical to the steering wheel set that will be used in the 2022 BMW M4 GT3 race car.
The Podium Steering Wheel comes off the same production line as the wheel specified for BMW Motorsport requirements. The wheel’s electronics are designed to be compatible with the standard for automotive communications, CAN bus. It is constructed out of carbon fiber and built to be water-resistant and shockproof. The wheel features all the buttons used in the actual race car, including all-new push-pull magnetic shifter paddles, and is optimized with BMW Motorsport pro drivers’ feedback. The Fanatec BMW M4 GT3 Podium steering wheel goes on sale in mid-2021.
