Daniel Arsham is one of the most exciting and expressive artists working today. His work captures the rich and detailed textures of the world, often in a state of semi-decay, a theme that continues through his collaborations with Mattel Creations. Daniel Arsham x Hot Wheels Lap Three Drop is the latest – and final – release in this impressive series that has seen Arsham reimagine several iconic vehicles.
After the corrosion-inspired design of the 1973 Dodge Charger SE and the Porsche 930 Turbo from Lap One, and the Deora II and the Porsche 356 Speedster from Lap Two, the final lap is here. This time, Arsham constructed new designs, delivering the Hot Wheels 1989 Porsche 930 and the Twin Mill vehicles.
Each car, built at 1:64 scale, has been reimagined with Arsham’s signature futuristic relic style, adapting the landmark designs and drawing on inspiration from the 1980 Porsche driven at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Exceptionally detailed, each piece is a superbly crafted homage to one of the most iconic sports car manufacturers of all time.
Urged by Mattel to think outside the box, Arsham’s creative vision and experimental approach to the use of materials has resulted in a truly unique Hot Wheels design. The set, which also comes with a license plate inspired by the California Sunshine Plate of the 1980s, comes bundled with a series of exclusive posters. It’s a must-have limited edition set for any dedicated Hot Wheels collector. All will be available for purchase starting February 23 via Mattel’s official site.
