Architecture is a spatial art form, but time also plays a huge role in how we imagine, build, and live in different spaces. Cercal House by Atelier Data is a home that was designed with time in mind. Seasonal cycles, daily rituals, and the interaction between time and space are the central themes of this structure, which is stark white and linear against a soft blue sky and a harsh, rolling Portuguese desert.
In fact, transitions through time and space are reinforced throughout the house, from a water tank that builds the boundary to patios with sliding panels that seamlessly switch from interior to exterior. Situated on a sloping terrain divided by a river, the home’s specific angles and orientation depend on the movement of the sun and create a stunning visual horizon from inside the space.
