Canon is blurring the lines between cinema cameras and hybrid content machines with the newly announced EOS C50, its smallest and most versatile cinema body to date. Weighing just 1.5 pounds, the C50 crams pro-grade filmmaking specs into a compact package designed to appeal equally to social media creators and working filmmakers.

At its heart is an all-new full-frame CMOS sensor with dual native ISO (800 and 6400 in C-Log2) for clean, low-noise performance in challenging light. It’s capable of capturing up to 7K 60p in 12-bit Cinema RAW Light, while also supporting 7K 30p RAW HQ, XF-AVC S, and XF-HEVC modes for flexibility in post. Canon has added 3:2 open gate recording for the first time in its cinema lineup, making it easier to reframe footage for different aspect ratios without losing resolution.

A standout feature is its simultaneous crop recording capability, which allows creators to shoot full-frame 4K while generating 2K social media clips in vertical (9:16), square (1:1), or 9:17 formats simultaneously — perfect for cross-platform content strategies. Despite its small size, the C50 delivers professional-level features, including Dual Pixel autofocus with AI subject tracking, optional XLR audio inputs via the top handle, waveform and peaking tools, CFexpress and SD UHS-II slots, and a timecode terminal.

With 32MP stills and 40fps bursts, the C50 is Canon’s most capable hybrid camera yet. Available to preorder now and shipping this November for $3,899, it launches alongside the new RF 85mm F/1.4 L VCM lens ($1,649) and the compact PowerShot Elph 360 HS A ($380).
