The award-winning design and architecture studio SO? has been cranking out innovative and beautiful products and structures for more than a decade. The latest work by this Istanbul-based organization begins with the humble plywood board.
A compact prefab dwelling near the border of Bulgaria in Edirne, Turkey, SO?’s Cabin On The Border rests in the middle of a picturesque field of mustard plants. Miles from the nearest power grid, this incredibly unique structure employs mechanical and manual means, such as rainwater collectors and solar panels, to provide all the creature comforts of home.
Cabin on the Border is ingeniously designed to address all types of weather conditions. On a sunny day you can open the structure’s polycarbonate window and plywood façade to let the wind blow freely. On a warm but rainy afternoon, the aforementioned window becomes a canopy to lie beneath. On a stormy night, both the window and the façade can be shut down to create an impenetrable and cozy barrier of insulated and laminated plywood.
