If you’re in the market for a new high-performance SUV with Ivy league luxury, you’re in luck. BMW has released updated versions of its X5 M and X6 M Competition SUVs for 2024. These V8-powered people haulers sport a facelift, interior upgrades, and a performance bump with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
The 2024 BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition will continue to flex a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8. But now it is accompanied by a 12 horsepower (9 kilowatts) electric motor producing 147 lb.-ft of torque integrated into the SUVs’ eight-speed automatic transmission. However, the engine’s total output remains the same at a healthy 617 horsepower and 553 lb.-ft of torque. According to BMW, the 48-volt hybrid system is meant to improve the SUV’s acceleration off the line and improve fuel efficiency.
The specs may be the same, but BMW fitted the 4.4-liter V8 with a host of new parts, including a cross-bank exhaust manifold, reinforced crankshaft, and updated catalytic converters. The transmission also received updates like shorter gear ratios for the first three cogs and a new aluminum oil pump with cooling fins to increase fluid capacity.
The new 2024 BMW X5 M and X6 M Competition sports slimmer headlamps and a blacked-out kidney grille, in addition to many new exterior colors like Brooklyn Grey metallic, Isle of Man Green metallic, and Frozen Pure Grey metallic. The interior gains BMW’s curved display, combining a 12.3-inch information screen and a 14.9-inch control monitor. Moreover, carbon fiber trim is standard with available Fineline Black or Silver Ash Root Open Pore wood. The 2024 BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition are scheduled to begin production in April to arrive in dealers by this summer.
