On March 6, at the Grand Prix of Qatar, the BMW M2 CS Racing will make its debut as the MotoGP Safety Car. The M2 CS Racing is the track-only variant of the high-performance BMW M2 CS. Since 1999, MotoGP has had M-powered BMWs in its fleet ranging from M3, M4, and M8 Gran Coupe Competition to an X5 M Competition Medical Car and two BMW M 100RR Safety Bikes.
The BMW M2 CS Racing may look like a throwback since it is based on the outgoing generation of the 2-Series. Nevertheless, this two-door coupe is fitted with all the bells and whistles to serve the MotoGP as a track-ready Safety Car with additional light bars and a unique livery. Performance upgrades include a Drexler mechanical limited-slip differential, adjustable anti-roll bars, new engine mounts, tuned ABS, and ZF Sachs dampers. Under the hood is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six producing a brawny 444-hp. BMW first announced the track-only M2 CS Racing in 2019. Since then, this model has been available to own through the BMW M Customer racing program. Moreover, this new MotoGP Safety Car serves as an honorable recognition as the BMW M turns 50 this year.
