The original BMW Garmisch concept disappeared after it was unveiled at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show, but the new and improved modern day recreation is hoping to make up for lost time. Recreated from historic black and white images and few documents that were available, the two-door coupe features unique styling at every turn.

From the controversial interpretation of the iconic twin-kidney grille, to the honeycomb mesh on the rear window, to the glass-covered headlights, the car does elicit a few admirings (and occasionally inquisitive) looks. The interior cabin has a stylish steering wheel, wood trim, metal accents, and vertical controls. In many ways, the new Garmisch recreation does a fine job in replicating its predecessor’s avant garde style. Once it has been debuted at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the BMW Garmisch Concept will find its way to the BMW Museum in Munich where hopefully, unlike its predecessor, it will stand the test of time.
