Audio-Technica has officially leveled up the turntable game with the Hotaru, a $10,000 limited-edition all-in-one record player that floats, glows, and redefines what a centerpiece sounds — and looks — like. Introduced during Milan Design Week, the Hotaru (Japanese for “firefly”) is as much a kinetic sculpture as it is serious audio equipment. Its magnetically levitating acrylic platter hovers over a precision-engineered speaker base, casting ambient glows in 20 color shades with three modes: static, fading, or synced to the rhythm of your music. The result? An immersive light show that transforms your listening room into a multisensory experience.

Limited to just 1,000 units worldwide, the Audio-Technica Hotaru features a carbon fiber tonearm, a specially designed VM cartridge, and a concealed belt-driven sub-platter — all engineered to isolate vibrations for optimal clarity. Its dual 2.5-inch full-range drivers and 0.75-inch tweeters are housed in a solid aluminum casing supported by brass feet, keeping the system sonically pure while visually striking.

Whether you let the integrated speaker system sing or route it through your amp via RCA or subwoofer output, the Audio-Technica Hotaru blends high-performance audio with gallery-grade aesthetics. Reservations are open through May 30, 2025, with deliveries set for October. With only 1,000 chances to own one, this isn’t just a turntable — it’s a collector’s artifact for the design-minded audiophile.
