The 1959 Porsche 718 RSK Spyder isn’t just a collector’s dream—it’s living motorsport history heading to auction this August 14th. Chassis number 718‑023, one of only 24 known customer RSK Spyders, will cross the block in Southern California with a staggering estimate of $3.5 to $4 million. Built for speed, designed for legends.

The RSK was the evolved successor to the iconic 550 Spyder, featuring a lightweight spaceframe chassis, sleek Wendler bodywork, and a powerful four-cam flat‑four engine delivering up to 148 horsepower through a five-speed gearbox. At under 530 kilograms, it was a racer’s weapon, equipped with superior suspension upgrades and a mid‑mounted steering wheel built for precision.

Chassis 023 alone boasts a peripatetic past: delivered from Porsche’s factory in 1959, it raced in Cuba, Florida, and the Bahamas—driver Roy Schechter bringing its early wins and podiums. Over the decades, it passed through some of the era’s most notable collections and was meticulously restored to concours standards. Still road-capable today, it even completed the 2022 European Grand Tour. Notably, its original numbers‑matching Fuhrmann engine remains intact—a rarity.

This RSK Spyder isn’t static—it’s a machine meant to move. Offered without online bidding for direct collectors, it’s a chance not just to own a car, but to preserve a roaring slice of racing heritage.
