Like shoes and most marriages, Aston Martin releases its DB grand touring supercars in pairs. When the DB12 coupe debuted, you knew a topless variant was to follow, and here it is – the DB12 Volante. This convertible version of the DB12 provides similar performance figures, including an identical 202 mph top speed, while sporting a fancy folding roof.
Under the hood, the Aston Martin DB12 Volante features the AMG-sourced twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 making 671 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels via an 8-speed transmission. If you are looking for a V12 option in the configurator, don’t hold your breath because that option is no longer available. However, Aston Martin claims the V8 provides the convertible with a zero to 60-sprint of 3.6 seconds.
If you plan on pushing the Volante to its 202-mph top speed, you must put up the roof. This eight-layer fabric top folds itself under the rear deck and takes 14 seconds to open and 16 seconds to close. Buyers can choose four fabric colors: black, red, blue, and black/silver. Significant changes to the DB12 and DB12 Volante are in the interior. The redesigned cabin features improved ergonomics with a new touchscreen interface.
Pricing will be announced at a later date, but we’ll get a chance to see the Aston Martin DB12 Volante make its official debut during Monterey Car Week this month.
