The first official trailer for the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) new spin-off series Andor is out and is the #1 trending video on YouTube right now with more than 3.5 million views in 12 hours. Andor features Mexican actor Diego Luna in the titular role of Cassian Andor in the years leading up to Rogue One. Other cast members include Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, and Fiona Shaw. Academy award-winner Forest Whitaker is back as Rebel extremist Sam Gerrera.
In the trailer, the Empire has invaded Andor’s home planet Ferrix. We get the impression from the scenes and narration that he has infiltrated their ranks, donning an Imperial uniform. In a lavish, posh setting, we meet O’Reilly’s character Mon Mothma who says, “As long as everyone thinks I’m an irritation, there’s a good chance they’ll miss what I’m really doing.” – which is likely foreshadowing her rise to lead the rebel Alliance to Restore the Republic.
The trailer features a series of clips of rallying troops toward an uprising and revolution, with a description that reads, “The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved.” The premiere, originally scheduled for August 31st, is now scheduled to debut on September 21st in a three-episode release on Disney+.
