Alfa Romeo unveiled its farewell to internal combustion before shifting to an electric-empowered future. This limited-production halo car is the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, a modern interpretation of the famed 33 Stradale of the 1960s, the road-going version of the Tipo 33 race car.
The new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale embraces a remarkable design with butterfly doors and a skyline canopy. The supercar’s retro-inspired styling rides the line between Alfa Romeo’s past and present, heading to the future. The tail lights have a red mist of rage in appearance with a V-shape tailfin, creating a dramatic arch eyebrow look.
Photos of the inside of the interior cockpit make you feel like you’re sitting in a jet fighter with a great view of the sky above. The car’s front-axle lift, launch-control system, and drive-mode selector to switch between the default Strada to the spicy Pista track mode are managed by physical controls instead of a touchscreen.
Powering the art in motion styling is a mid-engined 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 borrowed from the Maserati MC20. It produces 620 horsepower and is managed by an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, sending power to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential. However, the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale offers the option of a battery-electric powertrain. This source of momentum provides a claimed 750 horsepower using the tri-motor layout from the Maserati Grand Turismo.
The EV spec adds considerable weight, tipping the scales at a rated 4,600 pounds compared to the ICE lightweight 3,300 pounds. But, Alfa Romeo claims the battery-powered 33 Stradale hits 60 mph in 2.5 seconds before reaching its 193 mph top speed, compared to the 207 mph for the gas-powered variant.
The 33 examples of the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale are reportedly sold out and unique to each owner’s specifications. Coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera begins production in June 2024. It’ll be interesting to see how many buyers of this limited-production high-dollar supercar opted for the battery-powered variant.
