After eight months of design and collaboration, the partnership between Spinnova and adidas has brought a sustainable and functional product to fruition. adidas unveils its first product with Spinnova, a mid-layer hoodie is designed with hikers in mind. The mid-layer adidas Terrex hoodie is just the beginning of what promises to be a long-term, sustainable, and profitable partnership between the two brands. Spinnova, a textile company based in Finland, has created a sustainable way of creating textile fibers, eliminating waste and harmful chemicals. Using wood and waste to develop textile fibers, Spinnova can create textiles that produce zero waste, minimal water use, and little-to-no CO2 emissions.
The product designed for the adidas Terrex collection is made of 25% wood-based fibers and 75% organic cotton, creating a sustainable textile option for the sports and athletic-wear mega-brand. Further, adidas’s new material uses less water while dyeing materials and does not use bleaching chemicals that could harm the environment. The partnership with Spinnova is just one small step toward adidas’s ultimate goal of having nine out of ten articles of clothing carry some form of sustainable technology or design by 2025. For now, those looking to minimize their carbon footprint will have to be satisfied with the Terrex line. This limited edition run will be available from adidas.com and other retailers starting in July.
