adidas has just rolled out the next generation of the COPA series with the introduction of the new COPA SENSE soccer shoe, packed (and we mean packed) with the latest adidas innovations. In designing the COPA SENSE, the team at adidas mapped a variety of different sole shapes, to understand where the foot connected most frequently with the ball. This led to the creation of precisely placed SENSEPODS, an innovation designed to minimize and eliminate the negative space found around the ankle and achilles. The second innovation within the new COPA SENSE is TOUCHPODS, placed on both the medial and lateral sides of the shoe. These are designed to absorb impact energy off the ball at the points of the shoe where the ball most often connects. Last but not least, COPA SENSE also introduces SOFTSTUDS, which are two medial forefoot studs that are injected with a soft material, so they bend upon impact with the ball.
For the classic-look upper, adidas uses a material called FUSIONSKIN that molds to the shape of the foot. This material seamlessly fuses leather and PRIMEKNIT, to reduce the rate of water absorption and improve flexibility. Finally, the collar shape of the COPA SENSE is slightly rotated and opened to the lateral side to follow the shape of the ankle. This has been engineered in a way to provide an anatomical fit, allowing the shoe to stretch with the respective foot shape, made possible thanks to a soft elasticated material used in the construction process. To finish off the shoe, adidas offers both laceless and laced editions, topped off in a traditional colorway with a eye-popping gold soleplate.
