At the pinnacle of German watchmaking, there is the A. Lange & Söhne Datograph, an iconic chronograph that is both technologically complex and aesthetically impressive. Well, the Datograph is seeing a “Lumen” reissue (kind of like we’ve seen in the Grand Lange 1 and the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase, but those were nothing like this).
Unlike other luminous watches that simply coat existing dial features with phosphorescent paint, A. Lange & Söhne rethinks the entire concept of luminosity by outfitting the Datograph with a semi-transparent sapphire crystal dial, letting UV light pass through and charge the lumed material that is hidden behind the dial. Permeating deep into the watch’s 41mm case, this light shines on the Datograph’s inner workings, giving you a glimpse into some of the most beautiful and complicated movement in timekeeping history.
