A House by REM’A

A House creates a visual effect that effortlessly blends the intimacy of a home with the natural beauty of its surroundings.

When is a house more than a home? When it’s the Guimarães, Portugal-based A House by REM’A. Built in 2019 and covering nearly 1,500 square feet, this modern home is highlighted by wood and bamboo construction that stands out in the midst of a highly-dense residential area within this vibrant European city. The two-story living space envelopes an interior that naturally evolves to blend in with its exterior once each door is opened.

Each boundary is carefully placed to draw the eye to the beauty of the home’s surroundings. A retaining wall starts at the underground garage and contains diagonal wooden rulers that create a nest-like visual effect cast in gray and wood tones. Floor-to-ceiling windows accentuate long corridors that look onto a walled-in pool that acts as a foreground to the living space. A House by REM’A creates a visual effect that effortlessly blends the intimacy of a home with the natural beauty of its surrounding topography, replete with lush greenery.
