Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the second generation of its GT Coupe, and we’re ecstatic about the announcement of this all-new generation coming in 2024. Details and photos of this new AMG coupe were recently released and showed a GT that’s longer, smarter, faster, and pleasantly familiar to fans and enthusiasts alike.
The new C192-series GT’s classic sculpted sports car body is constructed of an aluminum space frame and a cocktail of steel, magnesium, and carbon fiber. Compared to the 2021 predecessor, the 2024 model is 7.1 inches longer and 1.6 inches wider. There’s also an additional 2.8-inch increase in wheelbase. For style with function, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT coupe features active aerodynamics, seen in the car’s front underbody, optional front air deflectors, rear diffuser, and a choice of an active or fixed rear wing.
One significant change to the new model is switching to standard all-wheel drive instead of rear-wheel drive. However, the engine’s power can be directed to send 100 percent of its torque to the rear axle. Speaking of torque, the 2024 AMG GT55 coupe’s engine is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 tuned to 469 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. The higher spec GT63 produces 577 hp and 590 lb.-ft. A set of 20-inch wheels come as standard, with 21-inch available and Michelin Pilot Sport S5 summer tires.
Both variants use a new nine-speed automatic transmission with a clutch pack instead of a torque converter. Other features include a Race Start launch control, standard rear-wheel steering, a semi-active hydraulically linked suspension with adaptive dampers, and an optional nose-lift system to raise the front end by 1.2 inches.
Inside, the redesigned cabin features the latest in luxury tech. Options like a panoramic glass roof provide a more first-class experience in this two-door rocket. An 11.9-inch touchscreen interface is presented in the center of the interior, along with turbine-shaped air vents. Massaging features in the plush bucket seats are standard. However, you can opt for lighter, sportier versions. The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT coupe has rear seats that fold to increase rear cargo space.
The new generation AMG GT coupe will go on sale this time next year, and we’ll know the pricing and future hybrid and possibly Black series variants by then.
