The BMW X6 set the standard for luxury crossovers when its first generation was launched in 2008. In the years since, competitors across the luxury vehicle industry have often tried but never succeeded to live up to BMW’s conception of a car that combines the agility of a sports coupe with the practicality of a sport utility vehicle. The 2020 BMW X6 is the latest incarnation of one of the company’s most successful releases in its history.
The popularity of the X6 has brought several different crossovers to market. Different brands try to emphasize different aspects of the versatile vehicles to set themselves apart, but even with those alternatives, the 2020 X6 is in a class of its own. Its exterior design captures the imposing ruggedness of a sports utility vehicle balanced by the sleek contours of a sports car. The interior is a driver focused escape from the roads it weaves through, offering its own canon of in-car tech and entertainment.
Equipped with the “Hey BMW” voice assistant vis-a-vis its 12.3-inch central touch screen, the X6 uses that technology to emphasize safety while enabling connectivity. The BMW Active Driving Assistant vigilantly monitors the road ahead, detecting blind spots as well as assisting with lane changes and parking. These safety features are especially helpful given the 2020 model’s increased size from its outgoing model.
On the road, the entry-level X6 is powered by a 3-liter inline-6 engine that provides 330 lb-ft of torque. The 335 horsepower crossover builds on the last X6 by offering 10% more horsepower and torque, reaching 0-to-60 mph in only 5.2 seconds. Sports models with enhanced performance on top of those already impressive specs will also be available upon the 2020 X6’s official release in November of 2019.
