Many automotive aficionados consider the mid-1950s as the golden era of racing. And when examined critically against the competition, the 1953 Aston Martin DB3S undoubtedly emerges as one of the greatest race cars of that period.

The car is the product of legendary designer Frank Feeley and legendary engineers WO Bentley and Robert Eberan von Eberhorst, who together produced a car that was simply lighter, more powerful, more aerodynamic, and more beautiful than any other on the Mille Miglia and RAC Tourist racing scenes.

The 1953 Aston Martin DB3S on the RM Sotheby’s auction block was the second to come off the factory floor and the first of three to undergo post-production tuning for the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Although a Le Mans victory was not in the cards for this car, it would perform respectfully at multiple iconic road races and ultimately win the Goodwood 9 Hours.
