Zenith is doubling down on big, bold energy with the new DEFY Extreme Lapis Lazuli. This statement-making sports watch fuses cutting-edge mechanics with one of watchmaking’s most storied dial materials. The DEFY Extreme line already occupies Zenith’s most futuristic design space, and this latest release pushes the aesthetic into full-blown maximalism. With a 45mm case, razor-sharp facets, and a dial carved from deep blue lapis lazuli, this is a watch built to be seen — and impossible to ignore.

While lapis lazuli has had a major comeback across the industry, Zenith uses the stone in a way that feels uniquely theirs. The openworked dial reveals the El Primero 9004 beneath, a movement capable of timing to 1/100th of a second — a technical flex even if few will ever need that level of precision. The lapis plate carries the chronograph scales, creating a striking contrast against the movement architecture below. To amplify the visual punch, Zenith pairs the stainless steel case with yellow gold accents on the bezel, case flanks, and hands. It’s bold, it’s brazen, and it leans into the DEFY Extreme identity with zero hesitation.

Each watch ships with three strap options — a steel bracelet, black rubber strap, and black Velcro strap — offering everything from desk-diving refinement to sporty versatility. Limited to just 50 pieces, the DEFY Extreme Lapis Lazuli also ties into a larger Zenith narrative, following the brand’s lapis-laden releases showcased earlier this year, including the celebrated G.F.J. anniversary model.
At $33,900, this is far from subtle luxury. It’s Zenith operating at full volume, merging stone artistry, mechanical spectacle, and unapologetic wrist presence into one of the most arresting limited editions of the year.
