The WhistlePig distillery has been at the forefront of the rye whiskey revolution in recent years, pushing the boundaries of the art form to deliver some of the boldest rye whiskeys in the world. Operating off the grid and exploring experimental approaches to distillation, they’ve launched their most daring whiskey to date with WhistlePig’s BigShǝBàng 30 Year Single Malt Whiskey.
Taking three decades to make — a lengthier process than any other single malt produced in the United States — WhistlePig’s BigShǝBàng 30 Year Single Malt Whiskey is also the brand’s rarest release. This super-aged whiskey promises a complex combination of flavors and notes that reflect its status as the distillery’s premium launch.
Earlier this year, WhistlePig offered up fewer than four barrels for sale, making the BigShǝBàng 30 Year Single Malt Whiskey a highly sought-after spirit with an appropriately high price tag. While the total bottle count wasn’t revealed to the press, each 750 ml bottle costs $4,999, making it a highly collectible rye whiskey.
Finished in Vin Santo barrels, WhistlePig’s BigShǝBàng 30 Year Single Malt Whiskey blends elements of sweet honey and wheat crust with complementary floral notes on the nose. There are also hints of clove and honeysuckle on the palate, with an undercurrent of kneaded dough and toasted cedar.
This once-in-a-generation whiskey comes in at 90.4 proof. With potentially high demand from whiskey aficionados, WhistlePig’s BigShǝBàng 30 Year Single Malt Whiskey will likely sell out in short order.
