In mid-September, EPCOT at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida will be celebrating another milestone in the ongoing and historic transformation happening now at EPCOT, with the launch of the highly anticipated Space 220 Restaurant. The new Space 220 Restaurant is located adjacent to the Mission: SPACE attraction, and takes fine dining to a whole new level — literally. The immersive experience begins as visitors check into the Space 220 Departure Lounge in Future World. From here, they will board one of two “Space Elevators” that will transport them to what seems like 220 miles above Earth to Centauri Space Station. As one begins their ascent, they will look down through a viewport to see EPCOT shrink away, and looking up, the Space Station will come into view. Once docked, visitors will move through the Centauri Space Station-themed dining area. Inside the dining area, they will experience a panoramic view of Earth below, and a variety of work and leisure activities taking place beyond the windows of the Space Station-themed restaurant.
The Space 220 Restaurant will offer guests “amazing meals and a spectacular view,” with large picture windows providing a simulated vista similar to what astronauts see from aboard the International Space Station (the name of the restaurant comes from the altitude at which the ISS circles Earth). “Space 220 is a perfect addition to EPCOT, continuing our legacy of original storytelling — fantastical experiences rooted in real science and designed with a range of world-class experts that makes you wonder how’d they do that?!” says Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley.
And the views are just part of the experience. Patina Restaurant Group Executive Chef Marc Kusche will showcase his internationally-inspired cuisine. The Space 220 restaurant menu will feature stellar dishes and gourmet recipes, with a two-course prix fixe menu for lunch, and a three-course prix fixe menu for dinner. The upscale, contemporary fare will bring new meaning to the height of dining and will also feature more than 1,000 bottles of the world’s finest wines and a wide selection of craft beer.
