When news of a previously European-only vehicle gets the green light to be shipped overseas to us, yanks in America start buzzing with anticipation. Finally, Volkswagen revealed the long-awaited announcement of the VW ID. Buzz electric microbus is coming to the U.S. market for the 2025 model year.

This version of the ID. Buzz will be different from the European-spec. The main difference being the U.S. gets a longer wheelbase allowing for seven-passenger third-row seating. In addition to two powertrain options consisting of a single or dual motor layout. Equally important, buyers will have a colorful assortment of two-tone exterior paint like Energetic Orange, Pomelo Yellow, and Mahi Green. Plus, new colors like Oceany Cabana Blue, Metro Silver, and Indium Gray. However, we discourage anyone from dressing this retro electric bus in gray.

Inside, the VW ID. Buzz provides dual power-sliding doors for easy access to the third row with horizontally sliding power windows. Interior design options include deep shadowy blue with dark wood trim, coastal peach, and silver. Premium amenities like heated/ventilated seats with massaging features, heated second-row seats, and a 67.4-inch electrochromic sunroof are optional. A 12.9-inch infotainment screen handles most of the interior controls, and eight USB-C ports, a 110v outlet, and a 12-volt plug ensure every passenger can stay connected.

Powertrain options include a single rear-drive motor producing 282 horsepower and 406 lb.-ft of torque. Or the more potent dual-motor all-wheel drive layout making 330 horsepower. Because the ID. Buzz is built on VW’s Modular Electric Drive (MEB) “skateboard” platform, the batteries are mounted low to the floor to avoid encroaching on the interior space. Details on the VW ID. Buzz, like battery size and pricing, will be disclosed as we approach its debut in the summer of 2024.
