Pinhook continues its ambitious Vertical Series project with the release of a 10‑year rye whiskey that represents the halfway mark in a twelve‑year journey. Each year, the Kentucky distiller bottles a batch from the same group of rye barrels, allowing enthusiasts to taste the spirit’s development from four to sixteen years of age. The tenth‑year expression comprises just 25 barrels drawn from Castle & Key Distillery, where the rye was aged in charred American oak since 2016.

On the nose, the 10‑year bottling presents aromas of dried fig, white chocolate, molasses cookies and black pepper. The palate deepens into notes of dates, roasted almond, burnt honey and juniper, culminating in a long finish dominated by oak spice and dark cocoa. At 106 proof, it maintains enough weight to carry the flavors without overwhelming them. Each bottle is priced around $99 and arrives in March and April allocations at select retailers and via Pinhook’s website, making it a limited treat for rye devotees.

The Vertical Series concept invites drinkers to explore how rye evolves over time. Earlier releases highlighted youthful spice and citrus, whereas the 10‑year edition showcases the mellow sweetness and complexity that emerge with a decade in wood. Pinhook plans to continue releasing older vintages through 2032, culminating in a 16‑year bottling.

For collectors and whiskey lovers, the 10‑year Vertical Series Rye captures a singular moment in that maturation arc—rich, contemplative and full of promise for what lies ahead.
