Ventete’s aH‑1 Helmet Collapses to Tuck Into Your Bag

A decade in development, the aH‑1 bike helmet folds like origami, using 11 air chambers and a USB‑C pump for easy inflation.

Urban cyclists often struggle with bulky helmets when they arrive at their destination. Ventete, a British‑Swiss design collaboration, addresses this with the aH‑1 micro‑collapsible helmet. The helmet’s shell is built from a flexible polymer that folds down to a fraction of its size, collapsing up to 90 percent for easy storage in a backpack or messenger bag. An internal network of 11 connected air chambers provides structure when inflated and compresses flat when deflated.

To inflate, users connect a miniature USB‑C pump that fills the chambers in about 30 seconds. The design meets the EN 1078 safety standard, and the chambers are lined with RHEON padding—a viscoelastic material that stiffens on impact to dissipate energy. Ventilation channels run between the air chambers to allow airflow and prevent overheating during rides. When deflated, the helmet folds in on itself along predefined creases, reminiscent of origami.

Developed over a decade, the aH‑1 demonstrates how industrial design can solve real problems for commuters. Instead of compromising on protection for portability, the helmet uses simple physics to achieve both. Ventete plans to offer the aH‑1 in multiple sizes and a neutral color palette to appeal to a wide range of riders.

By rethinking the basic structure of helmets and leveraging air as a structural element, the company illustrates how even familiar safety gear can evolve. The aH‑1 will be available later this year through Ventete’s website and select cycling retailers, offering a convenient alternative for city riders who value both safety and practicality.
