Since the brand’s debut in the 1990s, URWERK has consistently produced bold, cutting-edge timepieces that are, frankly, jaw-dropping. The latest release of the UR-100V Iron is no exception. Originally introduced last year, the UR-100 series was a sort of back-to-basics for URWERK. Apart from retaining the ultra-bold design associated with the brand, the UR-100 series was simplified, more compact, and more focused. In addition to URWERK’s trademark satellite configuration of the wandering hours and minutes, the UR-100V Iron brings your spin through space into sharp focus. When the minute hand has completed its 60-minute journey, it reappears on a 20-minute scale of 555 kilometers. This is the distance you travel in 20 minutes if you are standing on the equator. The opposite scale tracks your journey through space around the sun: 35,740km every 20 minutes.
The relatively compact case, at least for a URWERK, is 41mm, constructed with a combination of titanium and stainless steel. It shows multiple surface finishes, all done by hand – with polished, matte, sanded, and shot-peened surfaces, depending on where you look. This adds an architectural look to this watch, without losing the full metallic style. To complement the full-metal look, URWERK injects touches of dark blue. The hour numerals and the minute track contrast boldly with the bright metal surfaces. This same blue is also used for the strap, which is made from Alcantara. URWERK is producing only 25 pieces of the UR-100V Iron, so perhaps now’s the time to gift yourself that watch you’ve always wanted.
