Tudor has just unveiled its PELAGOS FXD “Marine Nationale” diver’s watch, developed in collaboration with the special unit of the French Navy, Commando Hubert (combat divers). Optimized for professional use, the Pelagos FXD was designed specifically for underwater navigation. Being a regular supplier to the French Navy since the 1950s, Tudor continues this long tradition with the new Pelagos FXD, where FXD refers to the case’s extra durable fixed (FiXeD) strap bars, a functional feature new to Tudor.
The titanium case of the Tudor Pelagos FXD measures 42mm-wide, 12.75mm-thick, and 52mm lug-to-lug. The dive watch’s case and steel caseback are satin-brushed, while the ceramic bezel insert is sand-blasted to minimize reflectivity. It should be noted that the bezel is entirely new, being a bidirectional, countdown bezel that is slightly wider than usual – a crucial tool for combat divers performing underwater navigation. For optimal legibility and error-proof reading, the navy blue matte dial has square and triangular hour markers filled with grade X1 Swiss Super-LumiNova luminescent material. The snowflake hands, first introduced by Tudor in 1969, are also present.
Water-resistant to 200 meters, the Tudor Pelagos FXD is powered by the Tudor MT5602 caliber, which comes with COSC-certified accuracy, an impressive 70-hour power reserve, a non-magnetic silicon balance spring, and a variable inertia balance with micro-adjustment screws. Tudor notes that it adjusts its completely assembled watches to a -2/+4 second variation that is notably more stringent than COSC’s -4/+6 seconds. The Pelagos FXD is furnished with a one-piece fabric strap with a self-gripping fastening system, navy blue with grey central thread, and an additional one-piece rubber strap with an embossed fabric motif.
