The 2015 Nike MAG

The future is finally here and Nike finally releasing the self-lacing shoe from Back To The Future.

The anticipation that built up to Back to the Future Day and whether Nike will be releasing the iconic Nike MAG was more hotly debated online than any Republican presidential candidate debate we’ve seen this year. With leaked photos suggesting the release, the Twittersphere went wild. Since Nike has already made a replica back in 2011 that fetches over $15,000 online these days, we were aware that they could re-create this sneaker and it’s value will skyrocket. What was more interesting was whether Nike would be able to integrate the Power Laces that we’ve seen in Back to the Future Part II, a feature that makes the Nike MAG what it is.

Nike didn’t disappoint and announced that it will be releasing the 2015 Nike MAG with the Power Laces in 2016. Not only are they actually making the Power Laces happen, the technology will also be further developed to be used across multiple sports.

Now that we know that the shoe will be dropping, we’re fairly sure that you’re wondering how you’re going to get your grubby hands on a pair. It looks like Nike played it smart and will be making these shoes only available in limited numbers, which was expected, but also only via auction. The proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. We’re torn between the fact that the proceeds will be going to good use and how it will be out of our reach, despite our souls aching to cop a pair.
